Stringwire allows Users to contribute breaking news and stories to NBCUniversal and allows us to request real-time video from a network of contributors.
To contribute videos to Stringwire, Users set up an account by registering their email address and a password, and may choose to provide additional account information such as their biographical information, avatar, social media handle, and personal website URL.
Geo-location/Social Media Data:
Geo-location features are automatically switched on so that the location is shared with Stringwire during the streaming. You can change this feature in the Settings section of the Mobile App as well as in the Setting section on your device.
If a User allows geolocation tracking or social media access, Stringwire may log their movements or follow or publish their social media activity so that we can locate and interact with individual Users as news stories unfold. If a User wishes to participate in Stringwire without this geolocation or social media functionality, the User may elect to do so.
Information collected without an account:
Users also may contribute videos without creating an account by joining a pre-existing Stringwire Channel. Stringwire will collect account information and any video content streamed to the Service will be stored along with the date and time of video recording. The information will be collected and retained as well as the geolocation information of Users if they choose to allow geolocation information to be sent to Stringwire.
Chat and Messaging:
One of the main goals of the Service is to empower Users who are over the age of 18 to cover important events and breaking stories in the world around them. Whenever a User provides information or video content to Stringwire, NBCUniversal may use this content in our television, digital, and other NBCUniversal properties and may do so in real-time.
The information we collect from Users is used for the Stringwire service and for activities conducted by NBCUniversal, including but not limited to television and cable broadcasts, digital media, film, and parks. We will retain this information to locate and interact with potential contributors as news stories unfold and to enhance the Stringwire service and its coverage.
